These are the things we will be covering this term:

This term we will be starting our new topic the Great Fire of London. We will discover how and where the fire started. We will look closely at the fire service, the types of houses we now live in and how they have evolved over time.

In Geography we are looking at the local area. We will be learning about aerial perspective, developing our mapping skills and finding out about the different land uses around our school.

In science we will be looking at animals. We will identify and name a variety of common animals including, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We will discuss carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and look closely at different habitats.

You could help at home by:

Researching the Great Fire of London. Here is a website you may find useful.

To help your child with their understanding of location, position and direction discuss your journey to school together. Talk about the building you pass. Are they houses, offices, shops etc.? Encourage children to think about their own position in relation to things around them, using words such as near, far, next to and opposite to. How far away is school? Is the train station closer?

Please continue to read with your child every evening as this will help them to develop their reading fluency. This will have a significant impact upon your child’s ability to understand text. The following website has 250 free eBooks that you could share with your child and is free to sign up to.
