Oracy

At Millbrook, we believe every child should have access to and benefit from a high-quality oracy education, which is why we made the step to transform oracy teaching and learning across our school, and this allowed to be successful in becoming Voice 21 Hub School and work in partnership with Voice 21 Knowsley.

We aim to have a sequence of learning for a designated oracy session linked to the class topics. The intention is at least once a half term. In these oracy sessions we have a real focus on vocabulary and sentence structure, to ensure our children are communicating confidently in their discussions. Through having explicit oracy sessions, this will allow our children to be able to demonstrate strong oracy skills in a number of different academic and social contexts. Our teachers and support staff will demonstrate strong oracy skills and this is embedded in all aspects of our curriculum.

Through establishing this whole-school commitment to oracy, our teachers and school leaders are empowered, passionate and motivated to ensure that the voice of all our children is valued in school and beyond, as well providing them with the tools and skills to be a success throughout their life.
